Coronation Street Stars have a ball

Royal Westmoreland

£50,000 was raised for charity when stars from the screen – and owners from Royal Westmoreland – turned out for a ball at owner John Morphet’s farm in the North West of England.

Some of Britain’s favourite actors and actresses joined around 270 guests at a Strictly Come Dancing-themed ball in aid of Cash for Kids – an organisation that works with sick, under-privileged and disadvantaged children in the North West.

Actress Debbie Rush, who plays Anna Windass in Coronation Street, said: “I love a bit of Strictly and the Pure Leisure Group balls are always great fun. Cash for Kids is a fantastic cause, working with young people who haven’t always had the best starts in life, and on behalf of everyone at the charity I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated so generously, and to John and his team for their support.”

The money raised at the event came via an auction that included jewellery from Holetown’s Diamonds International and a luxury stay at Royal Westmoreland.

John, who grew up on the farm where the annual event takes place, said: “It’s a great privilege to be in a position to hold an event such as the Pure Leisure Group ball when it is raising money for such a worthwhile cause. We had a fantastic evening and I’m thrilled with the results, which will make a real difference to so many local young people.”
