5 Watersports To Try Your Hand At In Barbados

Royal Westmoreland

Barbados is certainly a beach paradise, with miles of white sand, calm waters, and warm temperatures year round. Drawing in visitors year after year from all around the world to enjoy soaking up the sun, it’s no wonder the island is such a popular place to holiday or retire.

Besides sunbathing on the beaches to top up your tan, there are a great many activities to be done in the water. Let’s run through the top 5 watersports we think you need to try while you’re in Barbados!

Snorkeling

Great for those who want to try out a relaxing water activity, the crystal clear waters of Barbados make it a snorkeling paradise. There is plenty to see beneath the surface, from tropical fish, turtles, manta rays, and coral formations to shipwrecks.

Take in these beautiful sights as you float in the sea and, as temperatures are warm year round, visibility is between 40 and 70 feet!

Boogie Boarding

Buy or rent a boogie board from either the resort, or one of the many watersports facilities on the island, and enjoy riding the gentle waves of the warm, clear waters of Barbados.

An ideal place to try out boogie boarding, the south and south-east coasts have slightly more lively waves, so head to one of the great beaches such as Silver Sands or The Crane to try it for yourself!

Stand Up Paddle Boarding

Stand up paddle boarding is one of the latest crazes when it comes to watersports, and whether you’re a beginner or if you’ve had a go before, you could be gliding across the water in the sunshine in no time!

Barbados has calm waters which lend themselves perfectly to this sport, and with several instructors and operators to choose from on the island, you can hit the water with confidence.

Kayaking

Explore the island from the water, and try your hand at kayaking! Whether you want to glide past the sandy white beaches on gentle waters, or seek out some more challenging waves to ride, you’ll be able to find waters to suit you in Barbados!

Even better, you’ll be able to catch glimpses of the marine life beneath you through the crystal clear waters.

Waterskiing

Skim across the clear calm waters of Barbados and experience the thrill of waterskiing! Whether you’ve been waterskiing before or not, Barbados is the perfect location to enjoy this exciting watersport, particularly on the west coast.

There are plenty of operators and, even if you are new to the sport, they are very friendly and helpful and will have you up on the skis soon! And for anybody from your holiday party who doesn’t wish to join in, they can still enjoy sitting in the speedboat and admiring the view!
