Finding Free Wi-Fi in Barbados: Everything You Need to Know

Nowadays, being able to connect to the internet is something that we just expect, no matter where we are in the world.

Whether it’s to catch up with friends and family back home, check your work emails, or just keep track of your social media accounts, we all free pretty cut off if we don’t have access to the internet.

And, while being cut off from the rest of the world on a Caribbean island sounds ideal for some people, others still like to have some level of connectivity.

Thankfully, just like the rest of the world, Barbados has made an effort to make free Wi-Fi as easy as possible to access, so we’ve created this quick guide to help you get connected while you’re here.

Free Wi-Fi Hotspots

Barbados kick-started an initiative in 2011 to provide free Wi-Fi access throughout the island and, thankfully, they’re well on their way to doing so.

So, to get started, check out this map of free Wi-Fi hotspots in Barbados, courtesy of Wi-Fi Space.

This list isn’t an exhaustive one, but it does give a good idea of where you’ll find some of the major Wi-Fi hotspots.

As you can see, the hotspots are pretty much all concentrated in the south and west sides of the island, particularly in Bridgetown, Holetown and St. Lawrence Gap. These areas are home to most of the hotels, restaurants and shops and are where the majority of islanders live, so it’s probably where you’ll be spending most of your time whilst on the island.

Most of the island’s hotels and coffee shops will have free Wi-Fi, as will many bars and restaurants too.

Wiman App

One thing you’ll want to do before setting off to Barbados is to download the free Wiman app.

Wiman is a global Wi-Fi network which allows you to connect to various hotspots not just in Barbados, but around the world.

Once you’ve downloaded the app and signed up, it’ll seamlessly connect you to any of their Wi-Fi points that might be nearby, meaning you don’t have to do anything to connect! Best of all, it’s totally free and an easy, reliable way to get connected.

There’s also a free wireless network map of Barbados which you can download to view while you’re offline, which is really handy when you’re stuck without internet and need to find a hotspot nearby.

Roaming

If you’re heading to the north or west of the island, perhaps up to Animal Flower Cave or the Andromeda Gardens, or find yourself anywhere where you can’t connect to Wi-Fi, then you might be considering connecting to the internet using your phone’s mobile data.

Unfortunately, whilst these days you can data roam in many European countries for free, this isn’t the case in Barbados for most UK carriers, so we’d definitely recommend checking the cost with your provider before you leave.

Many will allow you to buy a data add-on which will give you a certain amount of data to use during your stay.
