7 Things to Do Near Royal Westmoreland, Barbados

A prestigious private resort on Barbados’ west coast, Royal Westmoreland offers stunning holiday accommodation, world-class amenities and exceptional personal service. Though you can be sorely tempted never to leave its beautiful 750-acre estate, beyond is a striking array of fabulous things to do. Here are just some of the great things that are within a stone’s throw of Royal Westmoreland.

  1. Spend a day at Mullins Beach

A short, courtesy shuttle drive away from Royal Westmoreland lies Mullins Beach, considered by many to be the most beautiful on the island. The perfect place to idle the day away on a lounger, sink your toes in the soft white sand and cool off with a dip in the calm, almost transparent, aquamarine sea.  Enjoy refreshments and a light lunch at the private Royal Westmoreland Beach Club where you can also return in the evening for a beachfront dinner and watch the glorious Caribbean sunset from the terrace.

  1. Explore Holetown

This quaint little town with its distinctive colonial architecture is a pleasure to explore. It’s a great place to find unique boutiques, quirky restaurants and lush spa treatments. One of its main attractions is the Limegrove Lifestyle Centre, Barbados’ most upmarket mall. Here you’ll discover a wide range of designer stores selling the leading fashion, beauty and electronics brands, many at duty-free prices. It also boasts a cinema, cafes and diners. If you’re staying for dinner, do check out the fabulous Rooftop Fusion restaurant.

  1. Snorkel at Folkstone Marine Park

Barbados beauty extends beyond the beach to beneath the sea and Folkstone Marine Park, near Holetown, is the perfect place to get acquainted with the island’s coral reefs. The spectacular reefs are home to a myriad of tropical species including highly colourful tropical fish, turtles, stingrays and many other creatures. With clear water giving excellent undersea vision, snorkelling is the best way to discover our offshore habitats. For the best experience, book yourself on a guided snorkelling trip where a local expert will take you to the best reefs.

  1. Get pampered at Singita

Situated at Mullins Beach is the west coast’s ultimate pampering palace, the Singita Wellness Centre. Set in the most relaxing of environments, you can treat yourself to a wide range of spa treatments using an exclusive collection of products. As a Royal Westmoreland guest, you’ll also benefit from exclusive spa packages at Singita. There’s even a Jetlag treatment, perfect for getting you in a holiday mood after your long flight.

  1. Visit St James Parish Church

A church has stood on this site since the middle of the 1600s. Today’s St James Parish Church, though more recent, is still the oldest in Barbados and features numerous gargoyles, commemorative plaques and interesting historic items, such as its famous 1696 bell, dedicated to King William of Orange and inscribed ‘God bless King William’. Popular with visitors, is the picturesque graveyard where you’ll find the headstones of the very earliest British settlers.

  1. Take a catamaran tour of the coastline

Though you’ll have magnificent views of the island’s beautiful coast right across the Royal Westmoreland estate, there’s no better way to appreciate just how magnificent our coastline is than to take a catamaran tour and view it from out at sea. You can book a catamaran tour, including private tours, through our concierge. Here, you can sail along the coast, stop off at a quiet tropical beach for a chef-created picnic and finish the day off sipping champagne watching the sunset flickering on the waves and painting the island in a crimson glow. Unforgettable.

  1. Play golf at Royal Westmoreland

You won’t even need to leave the resort to enjoy a round of golf on a championship-standard course. The Royal Westmoreland Golf Course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., is an 18-hole, par 72, 7,045-yard golfer’s paradise providing thrilling holes and majestic views on perfectly manicured greens and fairways. As you’d expect, there’s everything else you could ask for too: pro shop, club and buggy hire, driving range, changing room and pro-lessons. As for refreshments, we’ve not only got a fantastic 19th hole in the form of our colonial-style Club House; there’s an 18 ½ hole too, in the form of our Halfway house.
