The wait is finally over... Barbados is open!

Island Update

It has been over 100 days since the onset of the lockdown but, at long last, the island and Royal Westmoreland are open once again! Following the much anticipated announcement from Prime Minister Mia Mottley that Barbados is open to tourists once again from the 12th July, and with flights from the UK scheduled to resume from the 18th July, the island is gearing up to welcome visitors again with open arms (albeit from a safe distance!) and the team at Royal Westmoreland are hugely excited to welcome visitors once again.

Barbados was extremely quick to act in locking down the country and that approach appears to have paid off, with the island officially declared Covid-free since 30th June. Last week, the UK announced its list of 59 ‘air-bridge’ countries, with Barbados ranking among the safest on that list. While government guidelines express that anybody wishing to travel to Barbados must return a negative Covid-19 test within 72 hours of their departure in order to gain entry to Barbados to ensure the safest environment possible for tourists and locals alike, this replaces the requirement for on-island quarantine, meaning guests are free to enjoy all the amenities on offer at Royal Westmoreland as normal. If testing at home isn’t an option you can also have your test completed at the airport upon arrival in Barbados and await results at a variety of accommodations within 24 hours.

All those flying to Barbados must now fill out an government immigration travel form and submit this 24 hours before travel.

Return To The Real Thing.

We’ve been sharing some of the fantastic food and cocktail recipes from the resort’s much-loved bars and restaurants throughout lockdown but we know nothing will ever beat that first sun-kissed swig of your holiday, and our fantastic restaurant and bar staff are on hand to ensure the wait for that Caribbean sun was worthwhile.

We’re working incredibly hard to get the Clubhouse and Beach Club open, with social distancing in place for guests to enjoy some of the famous Royal Westmoreland hospitality as soon as possible; whilst the Clubhouse will also be offering a takeaway service for guests to enjoy the first-rate food and drink in the comfort of their villas and apartments should they so wish. We might be biased, but we’d say that certainly beats a Deliveroo on a rainy British evening!

Keeping You & Your Family Safe.

While we’re thrilled that the island has been declared Covid-free, that hasn’t stopped us from ensuring we are as diligent as possible in ensuring the health and safety of all our guests and members at this time. Our housekeeping teams have all received specialised Covid-19 training and are using a strict checklist of criteria to ensure all health and safety protocols are followed. We will be providing all guests with disposable face masks at reception, along with hand sanitiser at the entrances of each of our direct rental properties and throughout the resort, while security will be taking the temperature of guests upon arrival and all staff will be wearing appropriate PPE. To ensure the safety of our staff, guests will be requested to wear a mask in public spaces or when interacting with staff, and allow housekeepers sole access to any room they are cleaning.

All of these steps have been taken to ensure the maintenance of the resort, and indeed the island’s Covid-free status, so that all of our guests can continue to return to Royal Westmoreland freely and safely. Click here to find out more.

Working From Home In Paradise.

Despite the first tentative steps back to normality, we are of course, all still conscious that the virus is present and of the heightened risks we are now all living with in our day-to-day lives, while at the same time being more eager than ever to emerge from lockdown and enjoy some of life’s pleasures once again.

Throughout this period of isolation, we have seen an increasing appetite for the privacy, safety and security that comes with a Royal Westmoreland property – whether as a holiday destination, or a longer-term investment through our fractional ownership and full ownership models. And with working from home set to be the ‘new normal’ for millions of people in the UK and across the world, why not consider making Barbados your new home-from-home? It’s a move recently encouraged by Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley, who has discussed introducing a “Barbados Welcome Stamp” which would allow international arrivals to live on the island while working remotely for up to a year. So, watch this space – your island dream could soon become a reality!
