It’s Polo season
Today in Barbados, Polo is a very popular sport, played by international teams in front of a home crowd of Polo enthusiasts, tourists and travelling team supporters. According to historical records, the first horse Polo match in Barbados was played in 1884 by British Cavalry Officers who brought the sport with them. It was a game that suited the Barbadian lifestyle where horses were part of everyday life and a number of wealthy plantation owners had their own stables.

The Legends of Barbados
Barbados has been known for its “Historic Test Matches” and entertaining atmosphere since the island’s first cricket match in 1882, the first touring side in 1895 and its first test in 1930 against England. Cricket is considered the national sport of Barbados and the West Indies because of the energy of the Cricket Festivals and party atmosphere surrounding the sport. Come and enjoy!

“Barbados’ new golf resort aims for the top”…
This was the magazine headline 25 years ago as the new Royal Westmoreland golf course opened in December 1994. An inaugural golf tournament was held over nine holes, with several celebrities taking part including racing driver Nigel Mansell and cricketers Brian Lara, Richie Benaud, Geoff Boycott and Sir Garry Sobers. Just 8 months later the second nine was in play and the course complete.
Reflecting on original photos of the 1994 site with those of present day, owner John Morphet says: “I think everyone who has been involved with Royal Westmoreland can all be extremely proud of its development. The long standing appeal for home owners has been that it’s an established development, and therefore a less risky investment for overseas buyers.
