'Barbados is in the Premier League' says owner Michael Geoghegan, ex HSBC Chief

Platinum Life met with the Geoghegan family who have been homeowners at Royal Westmoreland since 2009. Michael Geoghegan CBE, was Group Chief Executive of HSBC and previously headed the South American and European operations for HSBC. Having previously spent family holidays with his wife and two sons in Barbados, the family decided to buy a home here due to the excellent flight connections and lifestyle…

Michael says: “The location was convenient for visiting Latin America, where we used to live, and getting to and from London and New York, all of which have direct flights. The climate and the friendliness of the Bajans were also considerations.

“We bought for lifestyle reasons and typically spend seven months of a year at our home here, mostly over the European winter months. We now have residency and the process of getting this was straight forward with the whole process taking just three months.”

A further attraction for The Geoghegan family was the wide choice of sporting activities on island and security at Royal Westmoreland.
Michael continues: “Barbados is in the premier league when compared with other Caribbean islands. It has the best infrastructure, is safe, has a lot of sports – horseracing, golf, cricket and polo– so there is always plenty going on and things to do.

“We chose Royal Westmoreland because of the security, privacy and the golf course. Other developments, such as Sandy Lane, are not gated like Royal Westmoreland so they have their challenges with regards to security. “
