Mr and Mrs Smith, from Essex, UK
Deborah Smith and her London-based husband built their home on Ocean Drive in 2010. Mr Smith says "We chose to build a home in Barbados because of the British-based legal system , the established infrastructure on the island, the numerous direct flights from the UK, the variety of scenery(east coast/west coast) and the fact that we had had many great holidays on the island in past years.
"We liked Royal Westmoreland as it was well established unlike similar resorts on the island, it offered a high quality support service to owners and their guests, and the construction director and project managers were British and clearly very experienced.”
After giving Royal Westmoreland a detailed specification of what they wanted, their home was custom built for them. Mr Smith says "Our custom design incorporated ideas from houses we have built or lived in in Europe as well as local design features. The project management team did an excellent job on the construction, which was on time and to budget, and I have been impressed with the speed with which the usual snagging issues, found with any large new build, were dealt with.
The house differs from other houses on the estate, with large open plan areas downstairs. The main house has five bedrooms and there is also a cottage with a games room with table tennis, table football and darts, and a guest bedroom. This works well for the Smiths allowing their teenage nephews to make as much noise as they want, without disturbing the rest of the house.
The house interiors were designed and furnished by Archers Hall Interiors in a contemporary colonial style.

Mr and Mrs Templer, from Guildford, UK
The Templer family from Guildford, Surrey originally visited Royal Westmoreland to holiday with friends ten years ago. Magistrate Caroline (50), Financial Consultant husband Bill (50) and their two sons found that the villa set up and facilities suited them well as a family.
After this, and other enjoyable golfing breaks in Barbados, they decided to invest in a property. Having looked at several other developments on the island, which were far less established, the family were drawn back to Royal Westmoreland. With Bill being a keen golfer and the whole family into their sport, the onsite world-class golf course and the tennis courts appealed greatly. The security offered within a gated environment was also an important aspect, with the house potentially vacant for parts of the year.
In the summer of 2009 the Templers purchased an off plan four bedroom townhouse at no.6 Sugar Cane Ridge. Caroline says: "We deliberately went for a four bedroom property as it made it possible for two families to rent together and the house was close to the first tee, the Clubhouse, tennis courts and gym, which we thought would be important for potential renters.”
They moved into their home in August 2011 and started renting it out initially to their friends so they could get their feedback. Caroline says: "We are now renting the villa through a villa management company and have made it available over key periods such as Christmas and Easter holidays. We are expecting that the rental income we receive on the property will cover all our costs on an annual basis going forward.”

Chris Smith, from the Midlands, UK

Chris Smith, a company director from the Midlands, bought a ground floor, three-bedroom Royal Apartment at the end of 2012. Having married in Barbados in 1995, the island holds special memories for Chris and his wife, and after staying at Royal Westmoreland twice a year over successive years, they decided they loved it so much they would invest in their own holiday home on the estate.
Chris offered his advice to others buying a home on Barbados. He said: "I suggest you choose a property in a gated environment with security. It was a major factor for us in our decision to buy a home at Royal Westmoreland.”
Since buying their home they have meticulously decorated and furnished it to a very high standard and the finished look is elegant and luxurious.
Chris says: "The apartment was unfurnished when I bought it so the emphasis was on carefully choosing items of furniture for each room. The source of my inspiration was simple – quality! I wanted to make sure that each time we arrived at our holiday home we would feel the wow factor!
"I personally visited all of the most reputable furniture stores in Barbados until I was satisfied with all of my purchases. I also bought some furniture from one of Royal Westmoreland’s show homes, which made the process easier.”

The Chapman Family

The Chapmans bought Royal Villa 10 in a small enclave of twenty five detached and attached three bedroom villas, some with their own plunge and swimming pools, and all benefit from having a 60ft infinity pool with separate kid’s area close by.

Denise says: "I had visited Barbados numerous times prior to our buying. The appeal was not only the obvious gorgeous, golden, sandy beaches and crystal clear sea, dining in one of the many fabulous beach restaurants whilst watching the sunset, but also the lovely laid back friendliness of the Bajan people. This coupled with the Royal Westmoreland 5* Golfing Estate made it a compelling argument to purchase a Royal Westmoreland Villa.

We bought the Villa entirely because of its location on the Royal Westmoreland Estate in St James; Tom/my husband is a keen golfer. We have 9 yr old twins Charles & Scarlett and a Villa with its own pool was the ‘only’ viable option for our family.
