13 Reasons Why Barbados Makes the Perfect Location to Own a Holiday Villa

The Caribbean is a much loved holiday destination, and often people who visit once will wish to return again and again. So it makes sense that people looking to invest in a holiday property choose the Caribbean islands.

But where exactly in the Caribbean is the right place to put down roots? Barbados is one of the most popular choices, and with good reason.

Even if you have never been before, but are considering your options for investing in a holiday home, here are 13 reasons why we think Barbados is the perfect location to own your own villa.

The infrastructure

The island has a good infrastructure, with excellent roads connecting the north and south. Utility rates are some of the lowest in the Caribbean, and the water is safe to drink from the tap. The telecommunications infrastructure provides reliable internet and telephone services and utilises the latest in digital and fibre optic technology.

Ease of access

Barbados boasts a world class international airport, with daily direct flights to and from both North America and the United Kingdom.

In terms of duration, a flight from North America is relatively short, and it takes around eight hours to fly from the United Kingdom.

The weather

The fact that the weather is wonderful all year round is one of the biggest perks to owning a holiday villa in Barbados. No matter what month you decide to pay a visit, you are bound to find that the weather is far warmer than in England, even during hurricane season. Hurricanes actually tend to avoid Barbados, and the tropical rains the island does get tend to drain very quickly.

The beaches

The beaches in Barbados are something else, and whether you want surf or shallows, you will be able to find a beach you love. With white sands, clear blue water, and restaurants and snack bars dotted along the coastline, the Bajan beaches are the perfect place to unwind. Check out this list from the Telegraph on their top beaches in Barbados.

The food

With a fusion of so many cultures on the island, the Barbados food is bursting with flavour, and there is something for everybody. Why not check out our post on the 21 Bajan foods everyone needs to try, to see just how delicious their dishes are.

The culture

Barbados has so much wonderful culture to enjoy, with traditions and festivals that are enjoyed by the Barbadian people and visitors alike. With both West African and British cultural influences, British travellers are sure to feel at home.

The people

The people of Barbados are warm, welcoming, and helpful. They are also happy-go-lucky, and their laid back attitude is infectious, making Barbados a great place to come to relax and chill out. The people may well be one of the main reasons so many return to the island.

The rum

Mount Gay Rum, first distilled on Barbados, is referred to as “the rum that invented rum”, so if you enjoy a good rum punch, Barbados is the place to be. With many different types of rum available and some very experienced bar staff, you can relax by the sea with a delicious rum cocktail whenever you wish.

The nightlife

Bajan people know how to party, and the nightlife is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. Head to Oistins Fish Fry of a weekend, for freshly caught fish, and other Bajan food, and of course, rum punch.

If you don’t fancy that, there are many other great bars and rum shacks, or even chic VIP clubs, so there really is something for everybody.

Golf

You may not know that Barbados is known for its golf, but there are in fact several great golf courses on the island, including our own here at Royal Westmoreland.

Sailing

Sailing is big with the people of Barbados, with regattas which draw sailors from around the world every season. The island itself can be sailed around in just a few hours, so it’s a great way to explore and get to see more of the area.

Snorkeling

If actually sailing isn’t something you’re keen on giving a try, why not let somebody else do the navigating and go snorkeling? Whether you’re accompanying the sea turtles or exploring an old shipwreck, it’s always lots of fun.

The shopping

The island has many different shopping opportunities, from duty-free designer brands to farmer’s markets and little boutiques. Whether you want to stock up on foods and spices, or fashion and luxury, you are sure to be able to find what you’re looking for.

All in all, we think the island makes a wonderful location to own a holiday villa, and it’s no surprise that Barbados is considered one of the best places to invest in property. If you would like to see what we have to offer, take a look at our portfolio of villas and apartments here.
