How to spend a day in Bridgetown, Barbados

Bridgetown is the capital of Barbados, and the island’s largest city. There’s plenty to see and do, whether you’re interested in shopping, sightseeing or simply relaxing.

Here are a few recommendations:

Indulge in a Spot of Shopping
Broad Street is Bridgetown’s shopping epicentre. Here you’ll find the DaCostas Mall, full of shops selling everything from clothes to luxury products (like Tiffany & Co.), as well as a few eateries where you can grab a bite to eat.

Also on Broad Street is the Cave Shepherd department store, which specialises in duty-free goods.

Take the Mount Gay Rum Distillery Tour
Founded in 1703, Mount Gay is the world’s oldest existing rum brand. By taking the Signature Rum Tour you’ll get to explore the distilleries and witness the craftsmanship first hand.

Note: On weekdays, the first tour is at 9:30am and runs every hour thereafter until 2:30pm; on Saturdays the schedule is the same, but the first tour is 10:30am, and there are no tours on Sundays.

Enjoy Some Local Cuisine
Cuz’s Fish Shack – Bridgetown’s highest-rated eatery on TripAdvisor with over 600 reviews, this modest seafood establishment is definitely worth a visit. (And it really is a shack, too, so you can be sure of an authentic experience!)

Waterfront Cafe – Watch the boats in the harbour as you relax with your food and drink. Perfect for lunch and dinner, the Waterfront Cafe is one of Bridgetown’s most popular restaurants. It’s also worth noting that the cafe hosts jazz nights several nights a week, so try to coincide your visit with that if you’re a jazz fan!

Lobster Alive – Here you can enjoy… well, you guessed it – lobster! Ideal for a swanky lunch or a romantic evening occasion, the restaurant is located just feet away from Brownes Beach, so you’ll have a delightful view to enjoy in addition to the deliciously fresh dish in front of you.

Take a Boat Tour
Experience the famous clear-blue waters by heading out on a day cruise. Go snorkelling, swim with the turtles, or look out onto the ocean with a drink in hand – the choice is yours.

There are many different types of tours available, so be sure to shop around to make sure you take the one most suitable for you and your party.

Enjoy the Caribbean in Style with Royal Westmoreland
With Royal Westmoreland you can experience the best of Barbados. Spend your time how you like – explore the island, enjoy a round of golf on our course, or simply sit back, relax and bask in the glorious sunshine.
